Congratulations on the successful completion of the doctorate!
On 31.07.2026, Musa Ssemujju successfully defended the dissertation entitled “A Novel Algorithm for Detecting and Characterizing Lake-Breeze Fronts at Lake Victoria”. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Andreas H. Fink and reviewed by Prof. Dr. Peter Knippertz.
In his doctorate, he developed a novel objective algorithm for detecting lake-breeze fronts at Lake Victoria using station observations. The identified lake-breeze days were used to construct a first comprehensive climatology of Lake Victoria’s Lake-breeze fronts. Musa was funded within the DAAD PhD Fellowship programme.
"Completing my PhD is a deeply rewarding milestone and the culmination of years of learning, perseverance, and dedication." says Musa. "This journey has challenged me academically and personally, while also giving me the opportunity to contribute to our understanding of lake-breeze processes over Lake Victoria.
I am grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this journey, especially my supervisors, colleagues, family, and friends. Their guidance, encouragement, and belief in me made this achievement possible. I am proud of how far this journey has taken me and look forward to applying the knowledge and experience gained during my PhD to new challenges and opportunities ahead."
We wish Musa all the best for his future career and academic endeavours!
